WHAT WE DO

Programs

  1. Education
  2. Child Sponsorship
  3. Women Empowerment

Our programs address many of the challenges faced by children and young people in Haiti over the last 15 years. We focus on three specific and critical areas: Education, Child sponsorship and Economic empowerment. These are deeply interconnected and essential for creating sustainable development and improving the quality of life for the most vulnerable population.

We designed YAH’s programs to address both immediate and long-term needs and allow young people and children to go to school, to become gainfully employed, responsible community members and to reduce the prevalence of crime, drugs, teenage pregnancy and poverty in our community. In other words, we want to stop problems before they start.

We work together with both national and international organizations to amplify our impact and overcome limitations. By pooling our resources and skills, we can achieve more than we could alone. Together, these efforts form a robust framework that not only addresses the current needs of children and young people but also lays the foundation for brighter and more resilient future.

Discipleship

In conjunction with Chapel Rock Christian Church of Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, we will hold weekly sermon-based discussion groups to disciple people in our Hatian community. We learned this method at Chapel Rock Christian Church in 2025.

In 2025 Appolon was first a student and later a coach in WELL Westside English Language Learning (Indianapolis, IN, USA). We will conduct English Classes in Haiti based on this model.

Problem solving

Children at Risk: Our School provides structure, supervision, and access to support systems that help protect children. When a child is out of school, these protective factors are removed, exposing them to greater risk. We currently have 150 children in our program but can increase to 500 if we receive more sponsorships. Many children have to stay home because their parents can’t afford school tuition. The closest public school is more than a 1 hour walk from our town of Pignon.

Poverty: Women’s Empowerment, our microloan program, specifically aims to help women, recognizing their potential as key drivers of economic growth and development. It goes beyond providing just funding; it includes essential business education, financial literacy training, and mentorship to help borrowers succeed. The main objective is to expand small income, and potentially lift themselves and their families out of poverty. The microloans have improved the lives of the women.

  • Women are empowered by having their own finances
  • With their own finances, women can make decisions in the home
  • Women lost their babies because they had no transport to health facilities if their husband was away. Now, women can use their savings in emergencies.
  • Microloans have increased women’s self-esteem. Although the husband is still the head of the household.
